Cooper Canyon Backpack-San Gabriel Mountains

This is my last outing as HistorianL. On the morning of Cooper Canyon we got there and put on SNOWSHOES for the first time. We Hiked 2.5 miles in the snow, and when we got there we played in the snow, went sledding, and went to build snow caves to sleep in. At night it got down to 17-23 degrees. We did not do any skits by the big roasting fire (it was too cold). Hint=do not eat snow it will drop your body temperature down and you want it up to stay warm. On the hike back it was all uphill. When I got back I flopped in the backseat of the car and slept all the way home after I ate a big burger.

Rocket Shoot Lucerne Valley December 8, 2012

Scouts met at the Church at 6 A.M. to drive 2 1/2 hours to join the NAR rocket shoot that had 50 launch pads. We shot rockets from 9 A.M. to 2 P. M. in a dry lake bed.

Some of the scout’s rockets were named Morgan Freeman, Das Express, Interceptor, Carbon Dart, Aero Arrow, and Swag Overload.

Rockets varied in size from 2 ft. to 6 ft. long with engine size A to G. Thank you to Mr. U. for donating rocket engines.

Camp Josepho Backpack and Rifle Shoot

Happy Thanksgiving!!!    Thank you Noah C., Ryan M., Ryan R., and Mike M. for playing music at the campfire.

In the beginning we did a seven mile backpack in the rain to Camp Josepho.

When we got to the campsite we set up camp, and helped others get their stuff and clothes dry. We got to shoot 22s and bb guns, it was fun!

At the campfire we got to hear the story of Baden Powell, and how much courage he had. Some of the scouts sang and played music

On Sunday we took a 2 ½ mile hike to see sunny beaches and the big ocean, and a couple of bruises and blisters.

Hoegee’s Backpack By Geoff

I couldn’t attend but some scouts reported back to me on this outing.

The scouts had a great time backpacking into the Hoegee’s camp ground which is about a 3 mile hike along a stream in a rugged forest in the San Gabriel Mountains.

We had to get our water filtered from the stream.  It was cool under the trees but very hot above the trees as a group  of scouts tried to climb Mt. Zion.  They ran out of water and had to turn back near the top.

Some scouts completed their 5 mile map and compass. The scouts who did not hike made  some short videos around the campground.  Francesco  led this outing and did a great job.

There were bears in the area and we heard some spooky noises at night.

Most scouts stopped at In-and-Out Burger on the way home Sunday.
